In a love story that’s making ‘waves’, a 29-year-old woman from Bristol is celebrating her third wedding anniversary with a river. You read it righ – an actual, flowing, occasionally polluted river. Megan Ruth-Trump tied the knot with the River Avon in 2023, proving that when it comes to commitment, some people just dive in (literally).
Love is in the waterMeg insists the spark is very much alive. “I am still finding time to swim in the river every week – even in the winter. Every experience I have in the water is lush,” she says, as reported by the New York Post, proving that date nights can, in fact, involve wading through chilly currents. But behind the unconventional union is a serious goal. She married the river to raise awareness about pollution, turning her relationship status into a full-blown environmental campaign. “We all understand marriage because it’s about love and law – the governing forces!” she explains. Honestly, who knew activism needed a wedding ring?
Till legal rights do them apartJust like any committed partner, Meg is already planning the next big step: making it official, legally. She’s campaigning for the river to be granted personhood rights, which would allow them to actually get married. “I might even wear a suit this time,” she said as per the report. Of course, every relationship has its challenges. “I’m not surprised by the water quality… it really is sad, but I still see so much beauty,” Meg admits. Until then, she remains devoted, even as water quality remains… complicated.
